Working-Class Mr. Ahn’s Unscheduled Visits to Dr. Yeon’s Clinic (12-1)

📍 Working-Class Mr. Ahn’s Unscheduled Visits to Dr. Yeon’s Clinic continues…

⚠️ Just a casual warning – if you’re following along with Asuka and Jen’s fictional arc and delusion interior series, consider yourself warned. Everything under my fanfiction tab is totally fictional. There’s no need to get overly serious about any of it.

Arc Building

A:

Hi Jennie,

I have recovered…just in time for brutal work tomorrow (sigh…)

I see you have expanded an interior design you mentioned briefly before. I love it, thank you thank you!

Hahaha Suho’s pics got kept by two obsessives, one of them in his life and the other behind it.

He’s so darn cute in the attached pics. God I want to pinch his cheeks. Is it any wonder that Beomseok aches below his waist when he looks at them? Si-eun must have felt stirrings in his chest also.

I’m going to flesh it out into some meat soup.

Yours,

Auska, back in the kitchen

J:

Dear Asuka,

Feeling any better from that cold? Remember, as Chief Chef and Head Nurse of this operation, taking care of yourself comes first – no pressure on the soup-making front, alright?

Last weekend, the algorithm blessed me with The Merciless – an 8-year-old film, no less – and I immediately made an analysis video for it hahaha

I’m currently translating all these delicious courses we’ve been cooking up – from appetisers to desserts – into Korean this week to help out the Korean visitors sneaking into my blog.

My head’s swimming with seasonings to spice up the emotional rollercoaster of our canoe trio: Si-eun, Suho, and Beomseok.

I’m dying to ramble to you about them, but this week I’m pouring all my fuel into translating your witty creations into Korean. I’ll organise the links and send them your way.

By the way, ever since you mentioned that Akihabara toy cafe, I’ve already imagined Si-eun and Suho vacationing in Japan, browsing through that entire building of toy shops hahahaha, Si-eun’s philosophy,

If it’s legal, there’s no need to be embarrassed

While Suho’s the one blushing, glancing around like a shy puppy.

Ah, I can’t wait to finish our Achilles and Pat conversation. Once winter arrives – when rolling around under the covers becomes peak paradise – I’ll dive into the English version. The first thing I want to check, why Pat, disguised as Achilles in battle, became so uncharacteristically captivated by blood. I need to read that in English first.

Stay healthy this week.

With all my respect,

Your Jen

P.S. Stumbled across this photo of Jihoon – it’s the manliest shot I’ve ever seen of him. Usually, when portrayed as Si-eun, Jihoon has those feminine qualities.

A:

Hi Jennie,

Yes I am better. I’d say I’m at about 95% of my original version.

Ah, I did see you post something on the Merciless, but I haven’t watched your vid yet—I would like to see the Merciless without spoilers first haha.

Thanks for your translation work! My god, this is cultural outreach that’s going to take serious dedication. I’m happy more people are getting to taste this stuff because of you.

I am indeed boiling some soup in the meanwhile. It was supposed to be a very small bowl, but once again it looks set to spill out into something more. There is some brick work I need help with, but only when you’re free of course. I’ll list the consultancy requests here:

When does Suho’s granny go to the great beyond? I think you mentioned Suho takes 2 years to go for physiotherapy, during which Si-eun must have already graduated and entered medical school. So essentially Si-eun is in his third year of med school when Suho re-enters high school?

(as a first year repeat?)

Would granny have transcended earth somewhere then?

Where are Korean high school graduations usually held? In the west they are sometimes in school fields, but I assume it might be freezing cold in Korea.

Si-eun with his deadpan ‘it’s all right since it’s legal’ is so him hahaha.

He can also have a sort of one-dimensional focus. In the shop he must be occasionally picking up odd objects and asking Suho ‘what is this, do you know?’ or ‘do you want this?’, or ‘wow this is even bigger than yours!’ and Suho keeps looking around to see if they are being stared at by other Korean tourists before he replies in a hushed voice just in case.

He is grateful that Si-eun doesn’t speak loudly by default.

By the way, thanks for Jihoon’s photo. I believe (from his hair colour and style), this was from when he was filming his cameo in Tastefully Yours.

Yes, I’m really quite obsessed with him hahahaha

Ah Pat and Archie. Take your time to read their exploits under those thick covers. They’ve been in my mind for years now, and in the world for three millennia, they won’t disappear.

The Iliad suggests Pat becomes a little bewitched by Apollo. I think this is a bit of a deus ex machina actually, sorry Homer. In my view Miller gives us a more human reason: Pat had healed a lot of the soldiers that were being chopped up by Trojans. He couldn’t stand to see people he knew being killed, so he becomes a bit bloodthirsty in getting revenge, but overestimates himself.

If she ever needs money, she should totally write a fluff world-builder sequel ie ‘Three Years on Pelion’ or something like that. I’d buy it in a heartbeat, and I’m sure so would her fandom. Or she could retell the entire story from Achie’s POV. I’d buy that too. (One of my favorite sci-fi series actually does this, and it works.)

Yours,

Head Nurse Asuka, trying for 10hrs of sleep today

After Suho’s Grandma Passes Away

J:

Hi Asuka,

I don’t usually have overtime, so when I get home from work – if I’m not just lounging around on the couch – I can fan the dying embers of my energy back into flame and really dive into translation work, just like today. I do get some help from GPT, but I think the real growth happens through the process of doing my best to adapt things into Korean myself.

I went back and read through the comments you left, and they still reach me like spring breezes, like summer fragrances. I’m so relieved to hear your feelings are much better, and I hope work doesn’t wear you out too much.

Now, about point 1, okay.

Suho spends two years immersed in physiotherapy at the rehab centre – and even though he has that crazy stamina, I still think two years is the minimum for physical therapy. In some bricks, I’ve considered having him return to high school, but Korea has this system called the ‘검정고시’ (like GED in America) that accommodates students like Suho who have special circumstances.

Even if you haven’t attended or graduated from school, if you pass a test that checks your basic academic abilities, they give you a certification equivalent to a high school diploma. So I’m thinking Suho took the ‘검정고시/GumJeongGoSi’

By the time he’s finished physical therapy and taken the test, Si-eun would be finishing his second year of med school and entering his third. For reference, a Korean medical school is a total of 6 years.

I’ve been thinking that Suho’s grandma passes away one year after he wakes from the coma.

She closes her eyes in peace after seeing her precious grandson – the apple of her eye – wake up and walk again. That would be around the time Si-eun is graduating from high school. And at that point, Suho would’ve been awake and receiving physical therapy for almost a year (since Suho woke up that spring when Si-eun entered his final year of high school), so even if he’s not back to his old self, he can walk and move around without too much difficulty.

So grandma would pass away that spring when Si-eun enters medical school. When Si-eun finishes his first semester of med school’s first year and summer vacation arrives, Suho says,

There’s a house grandmother left me. It’s pretty livable. I did some rough repair work on the boiler and bathroom… Want to… live together?

And that’s how Si-eun starts living with Suho during his summer break after the first semester of his first year of medical school. Suho’s physical therapy enters its second year, restoring him to the point where he can run and box.

If the timeline feels too tangled anywhere, please definitely let me know.

And for point 2, yes – all schools hold graduation ceremonies in February, and it’s a cold winter. It snows.

Graduation ceremonies are held by class in each classroom. They watch things like the principal’s address together on TV. It’s too difficult to have everyone gather outside because of the weather. At universities, they do it in an auditorium.

I have a sense of what kind of romantic soup you might be cooking up.

Don’t push yourself too hard – but when I taste that soup, I’ll gain the stamina of a thousand soldiers once again.

Your Jen on Monday

I cut off my PS tail again!

So that’s how Si-eun comes to nest in that old house – the only inheritance Suho’s grandmother left behind – during summer break after finishing the first semester of medical school’s first year. Inside that nest, two otters live like newlyweds, laughing and gazing at each other all day long.

At that point, it’s already been a year and a half since Suho woke up, and the same amount of time since he started physical therapy, so he has no trouble walking and moving around.

The problem is, as this cheeky guy starts recovering his stamina, he keeps initiating wrestling matches with Si-eun. Since they’re living in the same nest, it’s happening day and night without distinction.

Si-eun says in that scolding tone of his:

Ahn Suho, you said you’re getting ready for the 검정고시 – let’s finish this while I’m on break.

Si-eun-ssi, I told you when I say I’ll do something, I do it! I’m gonna pass in one shot!

And now that Si-eun has free time during summer break, he volunteers to be Suho’s personal tutor.

But this guy Suho… instead of studying like he’s supposed to, he’s completely distracted, just stealing glances at Si-eun’s face, wearing glasses

Si-eun is gently teaching him fractions, but all Suho can think about is how sexy Yeon Si-eun looks in glasses hehehe

Cheeky Jen

A:

Hi Jennie,

I just knew I could count on your quality furnishings, thank you really.

These aren’t just bricks you’ve provided—they are chunks of premium marble. Mr Ahn would have contacted you as a regular supplier (though Dr Yeon would be giving you a wary look from the back).

I have, however, for my own cruel purposes, sent Granny to the angels before Si-eun even graduates high school. I find pain makes for sweet reading. Hope the timeline still works.

Yours,

Asuka, trying to hide the horns on my head
